A total of 1152 participants, including 504 men, as many women players and 144 officials from 17 districts and Capital Complex Itanagar are expected to take part in this 12 days sports extravaganza.
Protest over land encroachment
ITANAGAR, Feb 07: Continuing encroachment of land of Arunachal Pradesh in Uli village under Likabali subdivision of West Siang district by the residents of Dhemaji district is evoking strong protest from the local people, claimed All Arunachal Pradesh Student’s Union president Kamta Lapung.
Apprehending that such a situation could repeat Tarasso like incident, Lapung called upon the state government today to take urgent steps to avoid repetition of such unfortunate incident.

ITANAGAR, Feb 07: Citing the recent violent incident at Tarasso, the All Kurung Kumey District Students’ Union (AKKDSU) has appealed the state government to immediately solve the boundary issue between Assam and Arunachal.
In a release, it said, concrete steps should be taken so that such incidents do not repeat in future. Government must provide full assurance to the people of the state so that people can live peacefully.
The union also requested the state government to initiate road communication for Nyapin in Kurung Kumey district to Chayang Tajo in East Kameng district.

People emphasize on quality education
ITANAGAR, Feb 07: Expressing concern about the prevalent education scenario in its area, people of Bameng area emphasized on the importance of the quality education and stressed to check malfunctioning in schools. The general consensus of people came in an interaction programe organized by All Bameng Khenewa and Lada Students Union (ABKLSU) here on Wednesday. The objective of programme was to discuss over the various developmental and social issues of the area. The people also unanimously resolved to create awareness among the PR members about their fundamental rights and responsibilities. The house further resolved to take immediate steps to stop the mortgage and oath system practice in the area during election. The proper demarcation of boundary in the government and other institution such as school, hospital and important public places also stressed, said release. Prime duty of police force is to prevent crime and disorder: Governor
ITANAGAR, Feb 07: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma reviewed the passing out parade of 4th and 5th India Reserve Battalion at Police Training Centre, Banderdewa today.
In his address, Governor said that the prime duty of the police force is to prevent crime and disorder. The police must recognize that the test of their efficiency is the absence of both and not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with them. He advised the personnel and officers that as member of law enforcement force, they must inculcate four very important qualities synonym with the profession, i.e. humanity, integrity, professionalism, and courage. He said that they have to maintain high level of discipline and commitment.
Cautioning them against abuse of their power, Governor said that they must act with dignity at all times and be seen as caring protector. He also stressed on fitness amongst the personnel and officers.
Governor also asked the recruit constables to be proactive and become force multipliers. He said that each one of them should motivate at least five youth from their village to join the force and acquire skills to become employable.
Governor suggested that as part of the training ‘Arunachal Darshan’ must be organized for the recruit constables so as to enable them to know every part of the State.
Quoting President of India who said that Police Constables are the visible face of Government and therefore enough attention should be paid for their training and development and improvement in their service conditions, Governor asked the senior officers of the State Police department to ensure that advice of the President is followed in letter and spirit. Governor also said that Police department should shoulder the responsibility of positively engaging the youth in socially useful activities. Every policeman and Policewoman must act as guide for the youth and motivate them to grow up as a responsible citizen. He emphasized that engaging the youth should be one of Key Result Area of the State Police and urged upon them to play proactive role against drug menace and alcohol abuse.
Governor released an audio cassette of the theme song of Arunachal Pradesh Police titled ‘Hum Hai Jawan’ on the occasion. The lyricists of the song are D.Tamang and K. Tiwari.
Governor also gave away trophies along with cash award and certificate to the individual achievers amongst the recruit constables. Parade Commander Recruit Constable Hitu Das received the trophy for ‘Best in Drill’, while Recruit Constable Babul Langne received the ‘Best in Discipline’ trophy. Recruit Constable Tshewang Tamang, Recruit Constable Tranjit Taye and Recruit Constable Park Pigia received the ‘Best Firer’, ‘Best in Outdoor’ and ‘Best in Indoor’ trophies respectively. Recruit Constable Pey Tsering received the ‘All Round Best Trophy’.
Earlier in this course report, Arunachal Pradesh Director General of Police, K.K. Maheshwari informed that the 599 newly passed out constables are the 42nd batch of recruit constables to be inducted into Arunachal Pradesh Police. Maheshwari also gave an insight of the basic courses and other activities of the recruit constables during the nine months training session.
State Director General of Police informed that to encourage the young recruits to excel further, the Governor’s trophy will be institute and will be awarded to the best overall trainee from the next batch.

Fire claims two children of a family
ITANAGAR, Feb 07: Two minor children of a family, including a two-
The children were asleep along with their mother when the fire broke out, informed All Arunachal Pradesh RTI Activists Youth Forum.
Father of the poor children Rato Dada, who is the ASM of Kapu Dada village, was not at home during the incident.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. However, candle suspected to be the cause of the fire, the Forum said.
The injured mother has been admitted in RK Mission Hospital here in a critical condition and she is fighting for life.
Meanwhile, the Forum and local people have alleged late arrival of fire brigade on the scene.
“The children could have been saved from being charred had the fire brigade arrived on the spot on time,” they claimed.
All belongings of the family were also reduced to ashes in the fire.
Meanwhile, the Forum appealed to the state government as well as district administration to provide relief and all assistance to the victim family. The Forum further demanded the government to initiate against the fire station, Seppa for its alleged irresponsive attitude.
AJYCP thrashes claim of NESO adviser
ITANAGAR, Feb 07: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has reacted strongly to the news item where NESO Adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya credited AASU and AAPSU for lifting economic blockade against Arunachal. AJYCP general secretary Debya Jyoti termed statement of NESO adviser as complete lie and said they had no role whatsoever in lifting of economic blockade.
“From the beginning, organizations like All Assam Gurkha Student Union (AAGSU), Assam Minorities Students Union (AMSU), All Adivasi Student Association of Assam (AASAA), All Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (AATTSA) along with our counterpart from Arunachal like Students' Union Movement of Arunachal (SUMA) and All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) worked tirelessly to bring situation under control. Due to the hectic parley by us, we managed to bring down tension and paved way for lifting of economic blockade,” stated AJYCP General Secretary. He further added that, “NESO and AASU representatives did not play any role. Infact, during all important meeting held to lift economic blockade at Biswanath Chariali on Thursday no representative of NESO was present there. Two AASU representatives came but they were uninvited. I would request NESO adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya not to misguide people of Arunachal. The real credit in lifting economic blockade goes to ANSU and SUMA,” stated AJYCP general secretary.
Giving details of the whole sequence, he informed , “The team SUMA spearheaded by its state head Biri Tabing on 1st February conducted an emergency meeting with us and AGSU to take the edge off tension in North Lakhimpur District of Assam, resulting in a bit relief for the population of the Siang belt of the state. The meet came out with a joint memo submitted to the CM of Arunachal Pradesh in that very night in anticipation for quick results of the demands put forward by the trio groups. Where proper compensation to the deceased and injured in the tragic incident was demanded and the neighbouring students union also agreed to take measures for safety of Arunachalees in their regions. The participation of apex student body of Assam and Arunachal along with other eminent organizations of the state was nil on this very day.”

Appealing the educated youths, intellectuals, public leaders, PRI and Municipality council leaders to understand the “gravity of the evil designs of New Delhi based parties”, the Party General Secretary cum Spokesman Tsering Naksang stated that Arunachal today is standing between the two devils. According to Naksang, the anti dam movement is not against development per se but it is against the Centre’s policy of mindless exploitation of tribal resources and the adverse consequence the projects could have on the nature and culture of the indigenous communities. Had the BJP led NDA Govt and Congress led UPA Govt taken the consent of the land owners before imposing anything on them, the present hue and cry against the Japee power Ltd in Siang, Kalai in Anjaw, Dibang projects in Dibang Valley District and Upper and Middle Subansiri Projects in Subansiri District would not have been there. Naksang opined and asserted further that, it is only the regional Govt, if comes to power at Itanagar and New Delhi, the interest of the indigenous tribal population would be kept on priority list.
State BJP team calls on Rajnath Singh
ITANAGAR, Feb 07: A delegation of Arunachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by its State President Tai Tagak called on the National party President Rajnath Singh at New Delhi yesterday. The delegation had apprised the serious problems faced by the people of the state due to the economic and road blockade imposed on Assam road following Tarasso incident.
The State BJP team had also lauded the active initiatives of the party to register protest against the killing of Nido Tania, a student from Arunachal at Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi recently. “The voice was made vibrant right from Narendra Modi at Meerut rally to Sushma Swaraj at the Lok Sabha and to the Delhi Pradesh BJP led by its President Vijay Goel which mounted pressure on the UPA and AAP Govt. at New Delhi.” The state leadership of the party had earlier apprised the central leadership of the matter, the party said.
The state BJP team members included State General Secretary Dominic Tadar, State Vice Presidents Techi Necha and Katan Komboh.
2 state NSS volunteers take part in R-
ITANAGAR, Feb 07: Two NSS volunteers from the state, Likha Pantom of Dera Natung Govt. College and Kipa Nani of Govt. Hr Secondary School, Doimukh, participated in a month long Republic Day camp at New Delhi organized by Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs, GoI.
The two participants also participated in Republic day Parade at Rajpath, New Delhi along with the Indian Army, Navy and Air force parade contingent.
The camp, which was held from January 1 to 30 last, had 200 delegates representing all the states and UT of the country.
During their stay, the camp saw various programmes such as cultural exchange, personality development and life skill programmes and interacted with many personalities.
Among the 200 volunteers, few volunteers will be randomly selected for international youth exchange programmes in foreign countries in days to come according to their performance in the camp.
Disability assessment camp conducted in Changlang

camp in collaboration with Changlang District Redressal Forum (CDRF) and Muklom Student
Union (MSU) here at Tangsa Cultural Hall, Changlang yesterday. The assessment camp
was attended by 26 differently abled persons from the township. The persons with
hearing impaired were recorded highest during the session with a person requiring
wheel chair and four walking sticks. “Lot more were expected to take part but due
to various factors like Assam bandh for almost two weeks which hampered wide publicity
they could not report the camp” said president CDRF while referring to thinly participating
population. The president regretted that despite the specialist doctors in the fields
have come but many people could not take advantage of the facilities offered by the

Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I do appreciate the decision taken by the Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner for selecting the tennis court ground of I G Park as temporary site for conducting dharnas.
This will at least lower the tense atmosphere and minimize the traffic jam in the state capital caused by dharnas and processions. I request the Capital DC to keep his spirit up by taking bold decision for the welfare of the public.
I also request the state Govt to take necessary step to reduce the traffic jam and give justice to Late Tania.

Arunachal needs development package
Dear Editor,
Maintaining silence by MPs Takam Sanjoy, Ninong Ering and Mukut Mithi over Tarasso incident and subsequent economic blockade by various NGOs of Assam on Assam road, it seems that they are not serious about state’s affairs. Now, we the voters will judge whom we voted in power for highlighting the state problems at National level. They should work for the interest of the common public.
Now the situation compel us to demand for opening route connectivity to Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and North Bengal and open trade route with China as we are facing the problems of economic blockades regularly by various organizations of our neighboring state Assam. If Indian Govt. could allow open trade with China and Pakistan at Jammu and Kashmir, then why the Northeast region, particularly landlocked state Arunachal has not been allowed to open trade route with neighboring country.
Therefore, the state ruled by Congress govt. should demand for development packages for the greater interest of state.

Despite India’s impressive economic growth, persistence of under nutrition remains a challenge. It is the multiplicity of actors and processes; divergences of opinion on how best to deliver critical interventions; and lastly, the lack of coherent and effective policy engagement mechanisms that have led to the persistence of under nutrition. What is also holding back the programme to improve nutrition of children is the fact that few processes or networks reach across communities or cut across from the national to the state level.
Experts say, in India less than 55 per cent of mothers and children receive any of the essential health and nutrition interventions. Nutrition and health experts said that direct interventions will have to be delivered to reduce under nutrition in children and mothers.
The research found that a need for increased public awareness and sending out a unified set of messages to people will help in curbing under nutrition in women and children.
